Frequently asked questions
- When does the legal obligation for accessibility apply?
From June 28, 2025, companies must implement the requirements of the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG). This law transposes the provisions of the European Accessibility Act (EAA) into national law and requires accessible digital products and services.
- What exactly does digital accessibility mean?
Digital accessibility ensures that websites, apps and other digital products can be used by all people, including people with disabilities. This includes, for example, screen reader compatibility, clear navigation and high-contrast designs.
- Who must comply with the accessibility law?
The legal obligation applies to all companies that offer digital products or services in the EU. This includes providers of websites, online stores, apps, software solutions, cloud services, platforms as well as communication, banking, media and passenger transportation services. Small companies (with fewer than 10 employees and an annual turnover of less than EUR 2 million) are partially exempt.
- What standards do I have to meet?
The requirements are based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These contain clear specifications for design, development and user-friendliness.
- How do I start making my product accessible?
The first step is our free quick check: we analyze where your product currently stands, identify weak points and create an individual strategy for implementation.
- What happens if I don't meet the requirements?
Companies risk legal consequences, penalties and potential loss of market share as accessible products and services are increasingly in demand.
